A MAJOR UPDATE
A complete internal overhaul and reimagining of the aquarium and all of its enclosures
Exploris Aquarium first opened it’s doors back in 1987 and became a significant tourist attraction. Situated on the shores of Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland- ‘Exploris’ also boasts an adult education centre and seal sanctuary which cares for rescued seals until they are strong enough to be released back in to the wild.
It was clear that the aquarium itself was in need of major refurbishment as the building and attractions had aged somewhat over the last 30 years. This is where Nautilus came in!
As this was a full design to completion project we initially started by drafting new area concepts and features. Soon the ball was rolling and we began the demolition of the old tanks and theming.
One month into the project and you could already see our plans taking shape. As well as the site refurbishment, theming and life support systems installation we also had the task of building a brand new Otter enclosure.
The aquarium had been closed to the public since November 2014 but in August 2016 the doors re-opened once again!
